“Emptiness”, not in the sense of nullity or void but as “ an extraordinarily active volume”, suggests an alternative reading. An active “emptiness” that emerges as an absence made present to the observer. The prospect that one can enter and physically engage, does not provide a “direct touch” or contact with the “act”. It works against this expectation and presents instead a diorama marked by a certain distance and fills with the failed expectation of the encounter. Something is perpetually missing. This “Emptiness” is the cornerstone of “dissidence”. “Dissidence” suggests a refusal to conform to the ideological authority of an observer, an artist, or the state.
