Be(com)ing Dutch Caucus Dictionary Guide Reader | Nabuurs&VanDoorn
In 2007 Nabuurs&VanDoorn, in response to being invited to host a workshop during the Be(com)ing Dutch Caucus at the Van Abbemuseum, proposed to link experiences at specific locations to the Be(com)ing Dutch Dictionary presented by the museum. At the 17 locations participants had to perform minimal interventions and represent their experience in language and/or image. Eventually these experiences were published and exhibited at public spaces in Eindhoven. The 17 words / locations are as follows; be(com)ing at institutionalized workspace for street prostitution, caucus at different specialty stores, culture at public square with highest crime rate in the city, diversity at the red light district, ethnicity at the place where addicts get their state controlled methadone, hospitality at the, according to the media, most radical mosque, faith where homeless get their welfare, art at the bureau for peace, migration at the trailer parc, modernism at High Tech Campus, museum under bridge at outskirt of town, nationalism at recruitment agency, nationality at the center for asylum seekers, Dutch at a coffee shop to buy drugs, participation at the parking lot where addicted homeless people sleep, politics at an experimental community art project/historical architectural site, l’internationale at the community disposal area.
The materialized collectable components from this project are a series of the instructional drawings / maps that make up the Be(com)ing Dutch Caucus Dictionary Guide Reader.
