In his book "Why Is Landscape Beautiful?" Lucius Burckhardt describes Dutch artist Louis Le Roy (1924-2012) as "Prophet of the Wasteland" or "Inventor of the Ecological Garden." Much to their surprise, Nabuurs&VanDoorn discovered that in 1972, around the corner where they live and work, Le Roy created a place to promote biodiversity and where local fauna could reproduce. Unfortunately that garden was no where to be found. What happened to the garden? This investigation led the artists to the Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam where they discovered physical evidence of its existence.
